Hope Not Fear

In late 2020, in the exhalation between lockdowns, I worked with the BAFTA-award winning filmmaker Hassan Akkad on his memoir.

I hadn’t ghosted a book before and loved the experience. Hassan made it easy. He has the most remarkable story to tell about imprisonment in Damascus, his perilous boat crossing into Europe, taking a job as a hospital cleaner in the first wave of coronavirus and his subsequent role in persuading Boris Johnson to extend the bereavement scheme to all those entitled to it.

Described by The Guardian as ‘a story of our times’ and ‘remarkable’, Hope Not Fear is out now and available to buy here.
